Composting is a great way to dispose of your yard waste and other materials while at the same time being environmentally friendly.  Since our society is moving towards a go green mentality, consumers are looking for more ways to reduce their impact on the environment.  One of the easiest ways to help keep our environment clean is with the use of composting.  Starting a compost pile at home is easy.  You can purchase a composting bin to store your left over food products or yard waste.  These compost bins allow you rotate the material without touching it.  The composting material will break down faster if it is rotated regularly.  Rotating the material allows oxygen to come into contact with the material, breaking it down faster.

Composting

Why should you start composting?

Composting creates nutrients that can be added to your soil.  Compost enriched soil will help increase the health of your plants and also help them grow better.  Instead of adding nutrients to your soil with the use of fertilizers, composting allows you to do this with decomposed organic matter.  Using compost instead of fertilizer will naturally increase the health of your plant.  You will also save money because you will not have to purchase fertilizer annually.  If you want to truly grow organic edibles, adding compost to your soil will help aid in this process.  Some man-made products that contain fertilizer may also contain pesticides.  If you stick to the composting route, you eliminate the possibility of contamination.

Composting also conserves landfill space by reducing the amount of garbage.  Throwing away table scraps accounts for a good portion of the average homeowners weekly garbage out put.  Instead of throwing away table scraps, dispose of them in your home compost bin.  You can repurpose discarded food as a soil nutrient additive by composting.  If you do not have a compost bin, you can also dig holes in your garden and fill them with the discarded food.  Overtime the food will break down and naturally decompose.
