Commercial lawn mowers are made for professionals and designed to mow long days. Some of the most noticeable differences between home owner lawn mowers and commercial lawn mowers is their durability. Home owner designs usually use a thinner gage metal for the mowing decks. Commercial lawn mowers are made with thicker gage metal so that they can stand up to abuse caused by daily mowing. Most commercial grade mowers offer larger horse power engines to handle the additional strain on the machine. The additional strain can be caused by the extended use of the equipment for long periods of time. Most commercial mowers can handle mowing taller grass because of the increased blade tip speed. Some home owners opt for commercial lawn mowers because the desire to have a stronger built unit.
Some commercial lawn mowers to choose from.
Exmark Manufacturing– Walk behind, stand on and riding mowers.
Scag Power Equipment- Walk behind and riding mowers.
Hustler- Walk behind and riding mowers.
Gravely- Walk behind, stand on and riding mowers.
Most commercial mowers come in either riders, stand on and walk behind. Riding mowers are designed for the rider sit down and operate hand levers. Most all riding mowers operate the same way with the two levers. Walk behind units are designed without a built-in stand. Most commercial companies add-on a two-wheel velke unit to stand on instead of walking behind the unit. Stand on units are commercial lawn mowers designed with a built-in platform for the operator to stand on. From our experience with these units, they are not as user-friendly as the walk behind units. When you operate a walk behind unit, you have more control over the deck because you are able to lift up on it. Since stand on units have a built-in platform, the operator’s body weight holds the unit down. Stand on units and riders do not handle hills as well as walk behind units.
