Purple Dome Aster

Purple Dome Aster is an excellent perennial to use in your landscape for fall color.  This perennial is one of a few fall bloomers for zone 5.  By the time this plant blooms, many other perennials are done blooming for the year. This perennial plant blooms well into late fall as long as frost is not present.

The purple flowers of this plant also have a reddish-purple center.  The petals of the flower are long and slender. Purple Dome Aster pedals are shaggy looking and are abundant. The foliage of this perennial is green, and the leaves are long and slim.  There is a slight sheen to the foliage of this perennial.

This perennial requires regular watering during periods of drought and extreme heat.  Purple Dome Aster works well in border plantings or can be used as a stand-alone plant.  Some varieties may reach several feet in height. Purple Dome Aster can be planted in part shade to sun areas in your landscape.  If you are looking for a plant that provides fall flower interest, then consider adding an aster to your project.  Aster will outperform many fall flowering perennials.
