Power edging is a service often overlooked by most property owners.  If you have a established lawn and haven’t edged your property in a while, now is the perfect time to do so.  Power edging is the mechanical removal of over grown sod on concrete areas by a metal blade.  The process begins by locating the edge of your sidewalk or drive.  Once you have located the edge of the concrete area, you can determine how much over growth that you have on your concrete areas.

There are many types of power edging machines in the market place.  Determine the frequency that you will use your piece of equipment and let that decide what product to buy.  There are wheeled machines that look like small mowers to attachments for your string trimmer.  Wheeled machines tend to have more power because they have a larger engine than that of a stick edger.  With a stick edger, you have versatility and are able to clean up angles in your property that a wheeled machine can’t reach.  Stick edgers allow you to trim along curb lines where most wheeled machines can’t reach.  In our line of work, we prefer the use of stick edgers over wheeled machines.  Stick edgers allow our employees to clean up your cement edges faster.

The benefits of power edging include:

  • Uniform grass lines that meet your concrete areas give your lawn a clean look.
  • Uncovers the entire surface area of your concrete surfaces.
  • Removes grass clippings and trash that accumulate on the edge of the grass.
  • Makes edge to edge snow removal easier because your equipment does not get caught on the grass overhanging your sidewalk areas.
  • Makes your sidewalks safer for pedestrians by eliminating some trip hazards.

Power edging can be done anytime during the growing season.  Your lawn should be edged at least twice during the growing season to keep overgrowth minimized.
