One of the best ways to keep used landscape material out of the land fill is to repurpose material.  Repurposing can be as simple as reusing landscape block in another project.  There are lots of creative ways to repurpose material in your landscape project.  Repurposing can provide weathered material that has a unique look.  Some landscape projects look better with weathered landscape material.  Below is a list of some ways to repurpose material in your project.

Repurpose Material

Repurpose material in your project.

Road pavers-  You may have seen landscape beds created out of old repurposed road pavers.  These street pavers are great products to use to give your landscape a unique look.  Since most road pavers are about 100 years old, they have seen quite a bit of wear and tear.  The wear and tear from horse and buggy to automobile give these blocks character.  You might encounter chipped and worn blocks when using repurposed material.  Not all chips and wear is bad.  Installing these products in your landscape can give your project an old-time look.

Rail road ties-  Railroad ties have been used for years in the construction of retaining walls.  Railroad ties can give your project a unique look.  If you are looking for a retaining wall material other than cement block, then consider using rail road ties.  When choosing railroad ties as repurpose material, make sure that the ties are solid.  Ties may rot over time due to the environment that they were in.  If you start your project off with solid ties, they should last quite a while.

Lawn decoration’s  Repurpose material makes for great lawn decorations.  Rusty iron tools or small machines can be integrated into your landscape project.  If you find the right decoration piece, it can be the focal point of your project.  When using repurposed tools or machines, do not over do it.  Too many pieces in a project can consume the over all beauty and make your landscape look cluttered.
