Magic Carpet Spirea

Magic Carpet Spirea is a deciduous summer blooming shrub. This plant exhibits lime colored leaves and pink flowers in the summer.  The foliage of this spirea turns gold to dark orange in the fall.  During the growing season, this plant’s foliage will provide significant eye appeal to your landscape.  This is a compact shrub that grows well in small landscape beds.  Since it only grows to about two feet tall and wide, it makes for a great low maintenance plant.  Magic Carpet Spirea grows best in full sun exposure.  This plant also requires moderate watering during prolonged periods of extreme heat and drought.

This spirea requires little maintenance. Since Magic Carpet Spirea is a small shrub, pruning is only necessary to trim stragglers and occasionally shape the plant. As with most spireas, this type also grows in a globe form. The best time to prune this shrub is after it is done flowering. As always, remove dead or damaged areas of the plant as soon as possible.

It is a good idea to spray spirea with a deer and rabbit repellent. In the winter, rabbits especially love to feed on this plant. A simple treatment of a repellent can avoid extensive destruction. Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent Concentrate, 40-oz
