Mint Julep Juniper

Mint Julep Juniper ® is an evergreen shrub. This evergreen shrub displays mint green foliage, hence the name Mint Julep Juniper ®.  This evergreen works best when planted in hedges or mass plantings.  Mint Julep Juniper ® also does well as a specimen plant. The mature plant can reach about six feet tall and wide.  When installing this plant, it is essential to be mindful of the growing habits of the plant. Plant the shrub in an area that it will not outgrow its space.

This plant produces small blue colored berries.  Another excellent aspect of the plant is that it is quite fragrant. You will notice a definite evergreen smell after pruning or bumping up against the plant.

Once this plant is established, it is relatively drought resistant.  Minimal watering is required when the roots of this plant are established.  This evergreen is a compact shrub, but it needs annual pruning to help keep straggler branches in check. Pruning can be done in the summer to remove new growth.

Pruning-  Since the evergreen naturally grows in a globe form, consider rounding the plant when pruning it.  If your shrub is planted in a hedge, consider pruning the evergreen in a rectangular shape.  Pruning should not exceed the foliage of the plant.  If you start to see a woody and bare center, stop pruning.
