Variegated Red Twig Dogwood is an excellent plant to incorporate into your landscape because it has year-round interest.  This deciduous shrub has showy variegated foliage all summer long and displays bright red branches in the winter.  The leaves of this dogwood are around two inches long when mature. Pruning-  Pruning should be done in the spring after the plant is done flowering.  Pruning can be done at other times of the year, but it may affect the quality of the plant.  There should be no more than one-third of the plant removed at a given time. Heavy pruning must be done in the winter. When the foliage is gone, and the plant is dormant, it is easier to see what you are pruning.
