Winter Gem Boxwood is a broadleaf evergreen shrub. This evergreen has small green leaves that are the size of a fingernail. The leaves of this evergreen shrub are glossy and tough. Winter Gem Boxwood looks excellent as a stand-alone shrub, or it can be installed as a hedge. If you are installing this plant in a hedge, make sure that it is not in a west facing area. Winter Gem Boxwood is susceptible to winter burn. Winter burn is when the foliage and branches of the plant die because of cold temperatures. Watering your boxwood right before winter is essential. This water will provide necessary moisture so that the plant can survive through the winter.
This evergreen is low maintenance, but it does require occasional watering during hot and dry periods. If left natural, Winter Gem Boxwood looks excellent on its own. Pruning works best when limited to maintaining the natural globe form of the plant.

Details- One of the hardiest boxwood plant varieties available. Works well as a stand-alone plant or installed in a hedge. Foliage turns dark brown in the winter and turns back to green in the spring.
Pruning- Pruning should be done in the summer for the best results. Pruning should not be drastic but limited to keeping the plant neat in appearance. Winter burn damage can be removed as necessary. Depending on the severity of the damage, the plant may never fully recover.
