Prostrate Knotweed is a dense spreading summer annual. This weed germinates early in the spring. This weed produces a shallow taproot and multiple creeping stems. This broadleaf weed can produce thick patches up to three feet wide from one plant. This broadleaf weed grows best where most turf grass won’t grow. This weed thrives in dry, compacted and highly trafficked areas. This weed produces small pink flowers where the stem and the leaf of the plant meet. This plant flowers in late spring. The leaves of this plant will grow up to 1″ long and up to 1/3″ wide. If the plant is not mature, the leaves will tend to be smaller. This spreading weed reproduces by seed.
