The best tree for your home or business depends on the location of where the tree will be planted.  There are two types of trees, deciduous and conifers.  Deciduous trees are trees that leaf out in the spring and lose their leaves in the fall.  Conifer trees are usually evergreen trees that do not lose their foliage “needles”.  If you want a tree that does not lose its leaves, then you the best tree would be an evergreen.  If you are looking for spring flowers or fall color, then the best tree would be deciduous.  There are a few things that you should consider prior to selecting the best tree for your property.

Best Tree Selection

Consider the following for the best tree selection.

Deciduous or Conifer-  First choose what type of tree you want for your property.  If you like spring and fall interest, then consider a deciduous tree.  If you want a consistent looking tree, then go with a conifer.

Zone Hardiness-  Make sure that your tree is hardy to the zone that you are planting it in.  You cannot plant a palm tree in Minnesota.  Choosing a tree that is a solid fit for your zone, will produce the best results.  If you want best fit for your property, choose a tree that is found naturally in your area.

Mature Size-  Research the mature size of your tree.  Make sure that when the tree is fully mature, it fits its growing area.  The worst thing that you can do is plant a tree in too small of area.  It can pose a safety hazard or have an adverse effect on other plant material.

Soil Conditions-  Some trees are sensitive to certain soils.  Make sure that you are planting your tree in the right soil for its growing conditions.  It may be necessary to amend your soil if it does not fit the needs of your tree.
