Exmark mowers are great for the home owner or business owner. We have run Exmark mowers in our business for twelve years. We have used competing brands of mowers, but they never seem to measure up. Exmark mowers have proven themselves time and time again to be the best designed and most reliable mowers in the market place. Our company has owned other brands of mowers over the years. When you are a custom cutter, you need a mower that will operate smoothly, comfortably and reliably. Exmarks innovative ECS handle system on their walk behind mowers is by far the most comfortable in the market place today. The inverted design minimizes hand trauma caused by rubbing up against trees and other objects.
Though the operation of the Exmark mowers is great, some of the design changes made by Toro to the unit are less than impressive. The muffler mount and the air filter mount on the older model units had less chance of being damaged. The newer Exmark mowers have very weak welds on the muffler mounting and they break all of the time. The mushroom dome on the air filter housing sticks up and is just asking to be hit. The older 23 HP Kawasaki engines had air filters snugged tight against the machine. The spindle design has also changed from a long bolt and washer to a sleeve and a shorter bolt. These bolts are way too short and tend to strip out. The overall design has remained the same for years, which keeps us custom cutters coming back for more. As the old saying goes “if it is not broke, don’t fix it”. Hopefully Exmark will not make any more drastic changes to the mounting of the muffler, air filter or spindle. It would be great if they would go back to the way it was five or six years ago.
