If you are able to track down the source of the leak, there are patch kits designed to make these types of repairs. Some of the most common pond maintenance issues addressed in the fall are: power washing algae off of boulders or stones, removing leaves or removing unsightly plant material.
Pond repairs using foam.
One of the most common pond repairs to address water loss in water falls is foaming. Using dark-colored pond foam allows you to plug holes between boulders that cause water loss. Pond foam is similar to that of expanding foam. Once the foam is applied, it expands and fills even the smallest of areas. In order to help hide the foam, consider placing a small rock or boulder on top of the foam to cover it up when the foam is still wet. Expanding foam is not the same as pond foam. Pond foam is specially designed for this type of application. When you are doing pond repairs, it is important to always use products that are specifically designed for your project. If you the wrong foam for making pond repairs, it may decompose over time. If this happens, you will re-develop the water loss problem again.
