If you are a snow removal customer, you will soon see snow flags appearing on your property. The purpose of snow flags is to mark the edges of all hard surface areas on your property. Marking the edges of your hard surface areas helps cuts down on damage from over plowing. When there is several inches of snow blanketing your property, it is hard to tell where the edges of your hard surface areas are. Snow flags will be used to mark sidewalk areas, driveway edges and streets if needed. We also use snow flags to mark hazard areas such as drains, utility boxes, water shut off’s and any other sensitive area. Marking these areas cuts down on the potential damage. It is important that you as our customer help make sure that these flags stay in place. If any flags get pulled out or fall over, please replace them in their same area.
Once snow piles are established, some of the snow flags become irrelevant. Some snow flags are only intended to last through the first snow fall to establish piles. Once piles are established, snow will continue to be piled in the same areas all season long. The red flags that mark hazard areas should stay in place all winter long. These flags will serve as a consistent reminder that there is a hazard near-by. Snow will not be piled in areas with red flags.
