How to stop weeds.
Pre-emergents- Pre-emergents are a great way to cut down on the amount of weeds that will grow in your landscape beds. Pre-emergents are usually applied in the spring to prevent summer weeds from growing. There is no cure-all solution when mitigating weeds in your landscape beds, but it is definitely a step in the right direction to use pre-emergent products.
Round up- Round up is a great tool that can control an existing weed outbreak. It is important to remember that round-up is non forgiving, which means that if you spray something that you did not intend to, it will probably die. There are also other factors to consider when spraying round-up like: Will there be non target run off from the application? Will there be leaching of the product in the soil that can be absorbed by non target plants? It is best to use round-up on small weeds that cannot be pulled by hand. If you spray large actively growing weeds with round-up, you will now have a large dead weed.
Hand Pulling- Hand pulling weeds is the best way to remove them from your landscape. If you have weeds growing up in plants, the only way to remove them without harming the plant is to hand pull the weed. Hand pulling will give your landscape instant results as opposed to a slow kill with round-up.
